rain does not stop play
Feb. 5th, 2011 03:53 pmIs raining, and light is poor, but I have made good progress with sewing.

These are 1.5 inch HSTs that I'm chain piecing from borrowed templates, hence the imperial measure. The leaflet that comes with the templates is more than vague on what size to cut other pieces for the block, other than those using the templates.
Also, I have this hanging to quilt, marked and pinned and threads ready.

I want to practice a bit on scrap to 'train the muscle memory' before I quilt the hanging. Quilting the lamp mats and vase coasters the other day showed me i've lost some of my ease from lack of practice.
My hand stitching I show you another day. :- )

my creative space...
Feb. 3rd, 2011 01:00 pm... is working on too many things at once. More of that another day.
Yesterday, I made a pair of reversible lamp mats as a cheer-up gift.

Both are 'flower fairy' fabrics. The apple blossom is last year's range, and the sweet pea has been hoarded these many years. Layered with a scrap of Thermore batt, the blossom were outline quilted with 100g silk threads, top and bobbin. Simple but useful and cheery, no?

Well, not really, no? I have only the blocks made into a top.

This is the Paganini schnibble so far. I intended to make it from stash and then a friend (who had recently been stateside again) surprised me with a Bliss charm pack and a couple half yards of the fabric. It all worked together well and I stitched half the blocks together, completing the top in a marathon effort last eve.
This morning, Sherri at A Quilting Life kindly allowed me to slide under the wire and submit my unfinished top for 'Le Petit- a year of small projects'.
I'm stalled on this until the extra fabric arrives for the borders. Maybe I start the winter quilt that I bought Kate Spain's 12 days of xmas prints for. Who knows?

Still sick but recovering, I managed to be productive, in an odd sort of way. Although I recently started quilting, I bought magazines since 2001. I looked through to help pass the time and wondered why I kept them when so little on the pages appealed. So, I ripped out patterns I might make, or images I found interesting and made a folder to contain them. One box file out of nearly a metre stack of magazines, and 2 less boxes in my nest!
